Located along the Indian River, Cupola Park is a beautiful place for lots of outdoor fun. This waterfront park in Millsboro, Delaware, is within a walking distance from the town’s downtown shopping and restaurant hub.
There is plenty to do at the park, and visitors will find its two picnic pavilions fully equipped with picnic tables and barbeque grills. You can enjoy some relaxation time on the playground. There is plenty of shade at this park, which also happens to have the largest bald cypress tree in the state of Delaware.
There is also the option to do some shoreline fishing, or take your boat out on the tidal river. There is a boat ramp at the park, and this can accommodate small boats as well as kayaks. The waters around the park happen to be brackish. You can fish saltwater fish from the park bulkhead. When the tide rises, the river will cover this space and flow into the parking lot, so this is worth paying attention to. Depending on how salty the water gets, you might be able to fish for spot, rock-fish, mullet, and other small fish species during the spring and fall time. You might even be pleasantly surprised to catch some flounder or small bluefish.
There is a nearby option for those looking to fish for freshwater fish such as catfish, pickerel, perch, large- mouth bass, and a number of species of sunfish. You can access the public boat ramp by crossing over route 24. This will get you to freshwater that spills into the Indian River from Mill Pond.
While many visitors love the park particularly for its fishing options, many others merely enjoy some relaxing family time at this location. Another fun activity with many takers at Cupola Park is bird-watching. There are many aquatic bird species in the park, and these present a great opportunity for any bird photographer to capture. Some of the birds that call this location home include ospreys, shorebirds, doves, geese, gulls, and ducks. Double-crested Cormorants are also present in large numbers, which are often found in the park’s bald Cypress tree.
